New Bishop Consecrated in the Province of Southern Africa

On April 23rd, 2023 (Good Shepherd Sunday), the first Bishop Ordinary was consecrated for the ACC’s new Missionary Diocese of Johannesburg (Province of Southern Africa). The new bishop is the Right Reverend Xolani Mhlakaza. He was consecrated at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Cyprian (Pimville, Soweto), in the City of Johannesburg.


The chief consecrator was the Most Reverend Dominic Sonwabo Mdunyelwa, Archbishop Ordinary of the See of the Kei and Metropolitan of the Province of Southern Africa (POSA). Bishops. Siviwe Samuel Ma-qoma (Diocese of Christ the King) and Elfigio Fungai Mandizvidza (Diocese of Zimbabwe), were co-consecrators. Joining them in the laying on of hands were the rest of the POSA hierarchy: Bishop Samuel Mzukisi Banzana (Diocese of St. Paul), Bishop Jacob Katlego Qhesi (Missionary Diocese of the Vaal), and Bishop Elliot Leon Mnyande (Missionary Diocese of Ekurhuleni).

 

The service was attended by some 400 people. Thirty-one clergymen were present, including representatives from Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Charismatic congregations.
