Flooding Damages Haiti Orphanage: rescue funds needed

Flooding outside the dormitory (above) has washed away the road and undermined the building at the ACC's
Ste. Therese orphanage in Tapio, Haiti.

Last August the island nation of Haiti was battered, first by an earthquake and then by Tropical Storm Grace. Though the ACC orphanage of Ste. Therese in Tapio escaped major damage then, recent heavy rains have caused significant problems, washing away paths and undermining the structures that house the children.

Though information is still forthcoming, Fr. Jean Bien-Aime reports that he is working on emergency housing for the children and is in dire need of food, clothing, and medical supplies, as much of what the orphanage owned was damaged in the flood. The storms have come at a particularly bad time since school was slated to begin next week. Once damage to the buildings is assessed, additional funds will be needed for repairs.

Anyone who is interested in helping the orphanage with funding may do so by donating to the Saint Paul Mission Society (after clicking the link, select "Other" and type "Haiti Flood Relief" in the Note)."

The College of Bishops requests that the faithful remember Haiti this week in their prayers.
