Though Anglicanism came to South America in the nineteenth century, it was concentrated in the southern half of the continent. Today the ACC is established and growing in the north.
On September 27th, the Diocese of New Granada celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding with a solemn mass at the cathedral Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Periera, Colombia. The Right Reverend German Orrego-Hurtado was celebrant.
Despite the masks and social distancing made necessary by the continued threat of COVID-19, the occasion was a joyful one, as the diocese has experienced significant growth, expanding from its base in Colombia and Venezuela and into other areas in South America. This growth has in large part been due to the leadership of Bishop Orrego, who will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his consecration on October 17th.
