Bishop Roger Dawson, RIP
Jul 4, 2016
The Right Reverend Arthur Roger Dawson, retired Bishop for the ACC in Colombia and Venezuela, died on Saturday at his home in Shepton Mallet, England, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 77.
Bishop Dawson was ordained to the diaconate in the Church of England by John Hughes, Bishop of Croydon, and to the priesthood by Archbishop Michael Ramsey, but he eventually left his native country and came to serve St. Mary's pro-cathedral in Caracas, Venezuela as rector and dean.
He was received into the ACC in 2003, and served as Episcopal Visitor to the Diocese of New Granada until his retirement in 2010.
Archbishop Haverland remembers him as "a clear and sensible voice and, personally, very supportive of my own work." He has requested "prayers for the repose of his soul and that Jan may have a blessing of comfort."
Funeral arrangements have yet to be determined, but will be announced on the website of the Diocese of the United Kingdom.
